Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then found many other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for information.
A senior representative said the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
